Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo ignite competition

After years of relying on the traditional iPhone design, Apple is beginning a new phase with iPhone DuoApple's first foldable iPhone. With pre-orders opening on October 16, 2026, all eyes are on the device that combines iOS with a large foldable screen, a move that could increase competition in the flagship phone category.

Apple's entry into this market is important for anyone thinking of buying a foldable phone, especially with the company's focus on user experience, hinge design, and integration between the large screen and the system.

iPhone Duo: Large screen in a foldable design

The iPhone Duo's most notable feature is its ability to transform from a phone with a 5.4-inch external screen to a 7.6-inch foldable internal screen.

This design offers flexibility for everyday use; you can rely on the external screen for calls, messages, and quick browsing, and unfold the device when you need more space to watch videos, read content, and use multiple apps.

According to Apple, the internal screen provides 50% more screen space compared to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, giving the device a unique experience compared to the traditional iPhone, especially for entertainment and productivity.

Slim and detailed design designed for frequent use

The Apple focused on designing the device to combine portability with a large screen.

When unfolded, it's approximately 5.2 mm thick and weighs around 254 grams. The device also utilizes a precision-engineered hinge with materials designed to enhance durability and minimize screen creases. However, as with any foldable phone, long-term durability and screen quality after repeated use are key factors to consider in practical tests.

A20 Pro performance and iOS experience on a larger screen

The iPhone Duo () is powered by the A20 Pro processor and runs iOS 27, designed to handle the foldable nature of the device.

This allows for the use of the internal screen for various tasks, from watching content and playing games to navigating between apps and taking advantage of artificial intelligence features.

The main advantage here is that the user gets the familiar iPhone experience, but on a larger display area, with an interface that adapts to both opening and folding the device.

48MP cameras… Are they enough for a flagship experience?

The iPhone Duo () features a dual rear camera system, with a 48MP Fusion main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide camera.

It also offers an 18MP front-facing camera with Center Stage technology, along with support for stable video recording and features that allow for greater flexibility in camera usage during photos and video calls.

However, if optical zoom is your priority, it's important to know that the device relies on two rear cameras, and there's no dedicated telephoto lens included in the advertised system. Therefore, choosing the right phone for you should depend on the type of photos you actually take, not just the resolution of the main camera.

Battery and Charging: An Important Point Before Buying

Apple announces up to 31 hours of video playback using the internal display and up to 44 hours using the external display, according to the company's testing conditions.

These figures indicate that Apple is aiming for adequate battery life for a foldable design, but actual usage will vary depending on screen brightness, network connections, games, and apps used.

Before purchasing, it's best to check the shipping details and compatible accessories, especially if you rely on accessories from your current iPhone.

Pre-order opening… What does it mean for the buyer?

Apple began accepting pre-orders for the iPhone Duo on October 16, 2026, with availability scheduled for October 23.

The advertised price in the US starts at $1,999, placing the device in the high-end price bracket of flagship phones.

The final price in Egypt will depend on the market, the specific version, import costs, and availability. For buyers, pre-ordering allows them to reserve the device in supported markets, but it's best to confirm the delivery date, return policy, warranty details, and compatibility with local networks and services before making any payment.

Is the iPhone Duo worth your attention?

The iPhone Duo offers a new option for those who want to combine Apple's operating system with a larger, foldable screen. It's worth considering if you're already an iPhone user and want more storage space, or if you're looking for a single device that balances portability and productivity.

However, if your decision is based on camera quality, price, or durability, it's best to compare its actual specifications with your needs and wait for real-world user reviews before making a final choice.
